Fannie Mae's 2008 Help the Homeless Program
Alpha Phi Omega for Charlie's Place
|
For years, Alpha Phi Omega's Theta Chi Chapter at the George Washington University has enjoyed volunteering at Charlie's Place, an organization that goes beyond helping the homeless- it empowers the homeless. As an organization founded on the principles of leadership, friendship, and service, Alpha Phi Omega continues to be inspired by Charlie's Place.
Nearly 12,000 people in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area this year are homeless. That total includes people who are living on the streets, staying in shelters, or living in transitional housing. More than 45 percent are families and about one-quarter are children. While "street homelessness" is the image commonly presented to portray homelessness, less than 13 percent of the homeless people in the region regularly live on the streets. More than one quarter of the region’s homeless single adults are employed.
This year, Alpha Phi Omega's Theta Chi Chapter decided to become a partner of Charlie's Place in the Help the Homeless Walk. Our goal is to raise $1,500 that will go directly toward helping this amazing organization. You can make an impact in the lives of those 12,000 homeless people in DC. Every dollar increase towards our goal is not only a decrease in hunger but also a decrease in homelessness.
Thank you for supporting our team and please sign up to walk with APO and Charlie's Place on November 22!
